A powerful 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Balıkesir Province, northwestern Turkey, flattening buildings and leaving one person dead and at least 29 injured.

The epicenter was located in the town of Sindirgi, a mountainous area in Balıkesir Province, where the tremors were felt as far as Istanbul, nearly 200 kilometers away.
