Abstain From Influencing Tribunal Judgments, Fayose Tells Buhari

By Editor

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Saturday warned President Muhammadu Buhari to stop influencing tribunal rulings in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He reacted to the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal’s decision to sack Governor Nyesom Wike. Fayose said the growing collaboration between the APC-led federal government and parts of the judiciary threatens Nigeria’s unity.   “This is worse than the corruption Buhari claims to fight. The APC’s desperation to grab Rivers and Akwa Ibom through the backdoor before 2019, using the courts, could trigger chaos,” he said.   Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose also accused the APC and Buhari of plotting to rig the upcoming Kogi and Bayelsa elections. He claimed they plan to use the newly appointed INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and DSS Director General, Alhaji Lawal Daura, to achieve this.   Fayose added, “There was widespread rigging in the North during the presidential election, including underage voting. Yet, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP didn’t take steps that could endanger the country.”   He criticized the tribunal’s silence on Yobe State, where INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abu Zarma, allegedly received ₦15 million from the state governor’s ADC, Zakari Deba, to rig the governorship poll. Despite this, the tribunal upheld the election.   Fayose urged Governors Wike and Udom, along with PDP supporters in Rivers and Akwa Ibom, to stay strong.   “Don’t lose hope. With God’s grace, we’ll have the last laugh,” he said.
