Investigators have recovered the black box from the Air India flight AI-171 that crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

India’s Civil Aviation Minister, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, confirmed the recovery, stating, “The [black box] marks an important step forward in the investigation and will significantly aid the inquiry.” The sole survivor, British national Vishwashkumar Ramesh, described his escape: “I still cannot believe how I made it out alive.
