Akwa Ibom Tribunal Rascally Inspired, APC Tells Fayose

By Editor

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State dismissed Governor Ayodele Fayose’s claim that President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC interfered with the judiciary. The party called Fayose’s comments false, reckless, and malicious.

In a statement, APC Publicity Secretary Ita Awak said the PDP and Senator Godswill Akpabio’s government, not the APC, meddled in tribunal cases. He argued that tribunal outcomes in both the National Assembly and state cases proved the PDP’s interference.   Awak stressed that Justice Sadiq Umar’s ruling did not favour APC since the party had sought total cancellation of the April 11, 2015 governorship election, which APC described as violent and fraudulent.   He alleged that PDP leaders and Udom Emmanuel’s government raised a ₦10 billion loan to bribe tribunal panels. According to him, PDP chiefs assured supporters that the “settlement” would make tribunals ignore card reader reports and validate fraudulent votes.   APC accused PDP of knowing judgment dates in advance. Awak said PDP mobilised members and prepared uniforms to celebrate long before the tribunal delivered its verdict. He noted that APC lawyers only learned about the judgment a day earlier, while PDP leaders knew two days before that the tribunal would cancel results in some areas and order a rerun.   APC also questioned why Fayose ignored irregularities in Akpabio’s senatorial judgment. The party said the tribunal accepted inflated figures—205,519 accredited voters allegedly casting 444,505 votes for Akpabio—despite INEC records showing fewer than 91,000 accredited voters. APC added that Akpabio was not even the PDP’s candidate for the seat, yet the tribunal still upheld his election.   The party asked why Fayose never criticised the tribunal when it dismissed INEC’s card reader report as an error but excused Akpabio’s flawed nomination form.   APC said Fayose and the PDP aim to blackmail the judiciary. It described Fayose’s remarks as ignorant and mischievous, urging him to show more responsibility as a governor.   Finally, APC called on security agencies and government institutions to investigate PDP’s alleged manipulation of judicial processes in Akwa Ibom and prosecute all culprits to protect Nigeria’s democracy.     Also Read: Advocates Rally Against Medicaid Cuts
