Amaechi’s Ministerial Appointment Makes Mockery of the Anti-Corruption War – PDP

The Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah, has slammed the Nigerian Senate for confirming Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In a statement his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jerry Needam, signed, Obuah argues that the intrigues surrounding the ministerial screening of former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, and his eventual confirmation by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-dominated Senate officially endorse corruption and abuse of democracy.   He laments that despite the monumental allegations of fraud, looting of the state treasury and abuse of trust detailed in the Justice George Omereji-led Judicial Commission of Inquiry report and the Rivers State Government white paper, Amaechi still forced his way through the Senate to secure his ministerial appointment.   Bro Felix Obuah says the Senate threw away its most revered rules and disregarded the laws of the land just to compensate an indicted party member. He adds that this move not only amounts to fait accompli but also exposes the hypocrisy of the APC-led federal government that campaigned on an anti-corruption agenda.   The state PDP chairman expresses shock that the APC Senators could stoop so low as to discard the ethics and privileges committee report just to impose their will, ignoring the feelings of the people they claim to represent. He says this act amounts to a formal approval of corruption.   He commends the PDP Senators for staging a walk-out, describing it as a historic statement that they refuse to be part of institutionalised corruption, the legalisation of criminality and the sacrifice of integrity on the altar of party loyalty.   Obuah alleges that Amaechi represents only the interests of his benefactors and not Rivers people. He says the state would rather endure persecution for standing by truth and justice than receive praise as a “chief servant” in what he describes as a sla ve house.         Also Read: Japan and South Korea Seek to Ease Impact of U.S. Tariffs
