Breaking: Saraki’s Lawyers Lambast Judges; Stage a Walkout

By Editor

It was drama galore at the resume trial of Senator Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal sitting in Abuja as counsels to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, staged a walkout over the ruling of the tribunal that the trial of the accused must go on.

The lawyer to Senator Saraki had informed the Tribunal that a notice of appeal has been filed against the judgment of the Court of Appeal at the Supreme Court. The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), however, ruled that the trial must continue despite the notice of appeal at the Supreme Court. Irked by the judgement of the Tribunal, counsel to the Senate President, Mahmud Magaji (SAN), announced the walkout on behalf of the defence team while describing the tribunal’s ruling as “judicial rascality”. Other SANs in the defence team, Saka Isau and Ahmed Raji, also followed suit. More than other 30 junior lawyers also staged a walkout. After the walkout of Saraki’s lawyers, the chairman of the Tribunal asked Senator Saraki if he was prepared to defend himself to which he answered in the negative. The Senate President was thereafter given one week to get new lawyers to represent him. The next hearing of the tribunal is fixed for November 19.
