Dasuki Needed to Explain $2bn Arms Deal- DSS

By Editor

The Department of State Services (DSS)  has denied reports that it laid siege to the home of former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

An Abuja High Court had earlier allowed Dasuki to travel abroad for medical treatment.   DSS spokesman Tony Opuiyo said the Service never blocked Dasuki’s residence illegally. He explained that the agency only used legal means to ensure Dasuki appeared before a committee probing a $2 billion arms deal.   “The report that we blocked Dasuki’s residence against a court order is false and malicious,” the DSS said. “It only aims to damage the Service’s image.”   The agency recalled that Dasuki was earlier arrested and charged with unlawful possession of firearms and money laundering. His passport was seized and later returned to the court registrar.   The DSS said the current standoff arose because Dasuki refused to appear before the arms deal probe panel despite the court releasing his passport on November 4, 2015.   The committee, set up by government, is investigating procurement linked to a $2 billion arms deal under the last administration when Dasuki served as NSA.   “It is shocking that Dasuki has refused to honour invitations,” the DSS said. “Instead, he resorts to grandstanding and blackmail.”   The Service insisted it only seeks to enforce Dasuki’s appearance through legal means.   “Dasuki is trying to evade justice and tarnish our image,” the DSS added. “We are not persecuting him. Nigerians should ignore his claims. The DSS remains committed to the rule of law and democratic ideals. Anyone who tests this government’s will must face the law.”         Also Read: Trump Authorizes $300M in Weapons for Ukraine
