Decision to Overturn Trump Delayed

By Editor

On November 12, 2024, New York Judge Juan Merchan allowed a week for Manhattan prosecutors and Donald Trump’s lawyers to discuss the next steps in Trump’s hush money case following his reelection.

This development raises questions about the likelihood of Trump being sentenced for a criminal conviction from May. His recent victory has shifted the likelihood of facing legal consequences after being indicted four times the previous year.

Discussions continue regarding federal cases against Trump, while delays persist in the Georgia election subversion case due to legal disputes. A federal judge recently dismissed charges against Trump for mishandling classified documents.

According to CNN, Trump’s legal team and the Manhattan district attorney’s office agreed to postpone proceedings until November 19 to assess how his election affects the case. Merchan was set to rule on whether to overturn Trump’s business fraud conviction but instead approved a motion to delay deadlines, acknowledging the unprecedented circumstances involved. Prosecutor Matthew Colangelo emphasized the need for careful consideration of the interests at play.
