Following the Golden Eaglets’ victory over Mali in the final of the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile on Sunday, President Muhammadu Buhari said the win proves the indomitable Nigerian spirit is still alive.
In a statement through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President praised the team and said they had made Nigerians proud.
“On behalf of the Federal Government and millions of happy Nigerians, President Buhari congratulates the Golden Eaglets on their win over Mali,” the statement said.
He applauded their zeal, determination, hard work, patriotism, and skill, which led them to win the championship for a record fifth time.
Buhari also noted the individual honors won by Victor Osimhen, who took the Golden Boot as top scorer, and Kelechi Nwakali, who won the Golden Ball as the best player.
He said the team’s success shows that the Nigerian spirit remains strong and resilient.
The President called the victory a sign that Nigeria is making progress in redefining and realizing its potential.
He urged other Nigerians to adopt the same determination and patriotism shown by the young players, saying such values would help build a strong, united, and prosperous nation.
