An earthquake rocked northern Afghanistan early Monday morning, killing at least 10 people and injuring approximately 260 others, according to local authorities. The tremor struck near the city of Mazar-e Sharif, home to over half a million residents, at a depth of 28 kilometers (17.4 miles), the United States Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed. The quake sent shockwaves through the region, causing widespread panic and damage to homes and infrastructure. The Afghan Taliban’s Ministry of Defense reported that the provinces of Balkh and Samangan bore the brunt of the devastation, with numerous fatalities and injuries among civilians.
