The U.S. government has released over 240,000 pages of FBI surveillance records related to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., shedding more light on the federal monitoring  surrounding his 1968 assassination.

The files, published by the National Archives, include memos, wiretap transcripts, and internal communications detailing how the FBI, under the leadership of J. Edgar Hoover conducted a campaign to discredit Martin Luther during the height of the Civil Rights Movement. Also Read: China and Egypt Strengthen Ties
