China’s former Agriculture Minister, Tang Renjian, has been sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for accepting bribes worth approximately $38 million.

The Changchun Intermediate People’s Court ruled that Tang Renjian’s crimes, committed between 2007 and 2024, caused severe damage to the state and its people, warranting the death penalty. However, Tang Renjian’s confession, remorse, and agreement to return illicit gains led to the suspension of his death sentence. Tang’s sentence may be commuted to life imprisonment if he shows good behavior during the two-year reprieve period. Also Read: Malawi President Concedes Defeat Ahead of Official Election Results
