A new forecast from global risk management firm DNV suggests that energy-related carbon emissions are likely to reach their highest point in 2025 before beginning a gradual decline.

While this marks a hopeful milestone in the global energy transition, the report cautions that current efforts still fall short of meeting the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C target. “We’re approaching a turning point,” said Remi Eriksen, Group President and CEO of DNV. “But the pace of change must accelerate if we’re to avoid the worst effects of climate change.
