Google has agreed to pay a US$36 million (A$55 million) fine after admitting to striking anti-competitive deals with two major Australian telecom companies, Telstra and Optus that limited consumer choice on Android devices. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) announced that between December 2019 and March 2021, Google entered into agreements requiring the telcos to pre-install Google Search as the default search engine on Android phones sold to consumers.
