How PDP Lost the 2015 Elections – Panel

By Editor

The panel that investigated the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) defeat in the 2015 general elections has released its report.

The panel, led by Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, said lack of internal democracy crippled the party and fueled its downfall. It noted that the practice weakened PDP’s structure and encouraged members to work against the party during the polls.   The report said the party suffered from imposed leaders at all levels. It also found that many state organs meant to resolve conflicts, such as Elders Committees and State Caucuses, either did not exist or remained inactive. Where they existed, leaders often ignored them.   According to the panel, governors, federal appointees, and wealthy politicians hijacked state party structures. This left state executives weak, divided, and unable to function independently. Many ended up serving as rubber stamps or falling into factions, making unity impossible.   The report added that poor transparency in selecting delegates and candidates further damaged the party’s chances. It also listed other problems, including the abandonment of zoning, strong hostility in the North, and other internal conflicts.     Also Read: Nations Condemn Israel’s “Drip Feeding” of Aid in Gaza
