Serena Williams Engaged to Reddit Co-Founder Alexis Ohanian

Serena Williams announced Thursday that she is engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. She shared the news with a poem on her verified Reddit account.

Williams, 35, and Ohanian, 33, did not reveal a wedding date. She posted under the Reddit tag “I said yes.”

In her poem, Williams described how Ohanian surprised her in Rome, where they first met. He packed her bag, arranged a carriage, and proposed at the same table where their story began. “Down on one knee, he said four words, and I said yes,” she wrote.

Ohanian replied from his account: “And you made me the happiest man on the planet.”

The WTA Tour congratulated the couple on Twitter with a photo of them together.

Williams won Wimbledon this year, her 71st singles title. That victory tied her with Steffi Graf at 22 Grand Slam singles titles in the Open Era, two behind Margaret Court’s all-time record. She also tied Graf’s record of 186 straight weeks as world number one before Angelique Kerber took the top spot in September.
