Jonathan Alleges Obama’s Bias Influenced His 2015 Election Defeat

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has claimed that former U.S. President Barack Obama played a role in his loss during Nigeria’s historic 2015 presidential election. Jonathan, who sought re-election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was defeated by Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking the first time an incumbent president lost a general election in Nigeria. In his memoir My Transition Hours, scheduled for public release on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Jonathan accuses Obama of exhibiting an “unusual level of bias” and “condescension” toward him during the election period, suggesting that such interference contributed to his defeat.
