Guinea’s coup leader Mamady Doumbouya has been elected president, according to provisional results announced Tuesday. His victory marks the completion of the country’s return to civilian rule after years of political upheaval.

Doumbouya, a former special forces commander, seized power in 2021 by ousting longtime president Alpha Conde, who had governed since 2010.
