MASSOB is a Distraction, Says Okorocha’s Media Aide

Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, Founder of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), faces criticism for allegedly supporting the APC-led Federal Government in the continued marginalisation of the Igbo. The Imo State Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Onwuemedo, said Uwazuruike, not Governor Rochas Okorocha, was the true saboteur.   Onwuemedo argued that Uwazuruike attacked Okorocha because the governor condemned recent violent Biafra protests. Okorocha had said the Igbo should not rely on MASSOB to demand their rights in Nigeria.   He recalled that Uwazuruike once backed the PDP and former President Goodluck Jonathan. “Let him name one project the PDP or Jonathan brought to Igboland,” Onwuemedo said.   He accused Uwazuruike of campaigning against the APC and President Muhammadu Buhari, while Okorocha urged Igbos to understand the mood of other Nigerians. “Now Ndigbo must decide who the real saboteur is—Uwazuruike or Okorocha,” he added.   Onwuemedo also questioned why MASSOB kept silent during Jonathan’s presidency but suddenly became active under Buhari. He stressed that the Igbo could not demand sovereignty in a country where they remain key stakeholders.   “If MASSOB failed to secure sovereignty under Jonathan, whom they supported, how would they achieve it under Buhari, whom they opposed?” he asked.   Onwuemedo dismissed MASSOB as a distraction. He said South-East governors and leaders had resolved to work with Buhari to bring development. He cited the upgrade of Imo Airport to Cargo International Airport as proof, noting that work had already started.   He reaffirmed that Okorocha, as an Igbo leader, would continue to defend the genuine interests of the Igbo both in Nigeria and the Diaspora.   Also Read: Jamal Musiala Undergoes Successful Surgery
