Meta has acquired Manus, a China-founded AI startup, in a deal reportedly worth over $2 billion, marking its third-largest acquisition ever. Manus, launched in March 2025, boasts an AI agent capable of autonomously performing complex tasks like market research, coding, and data analysis, with claims its performance surpasses OpenAI’s DeepResearch.

The acquisition aims to bolster Meta’s AI capabilities, integrating Manus’ technology into its platforms, including Meta AI, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Manus will operate independently, maintaining its Singapore base and existing team, with CEO Xiao Hong becoming a Meta VP.
