Myanmar Authorities Arrests Group, Including Six-Year-Old Girl

Myanmar authorities have arrested 16 individuals, including a six-year-old girl, in connection with the May 22 assassination of Cho Htun Aung, a retired brigadier general and former diplomat.

The child, reportedly the daughter of the alleged gunman, was among those detained. In official news reports, authorities published images of the suspects, including the young girl. The junta-run newspaper blurred her face in its online version, but unedited images circulated on social media. The junta has claimed that the group behind the killing, the Golden Valley Warriors, has links to the National Unity Government (NUG), a shadow administration formed by opponents of the 2021 military coup.
