NFF Plans to Cut Down on Tournaments Over Funding Issues   Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials have agreed to reduce the number of tournaments the country will enter next year after a turbulent experience with the Super Falcons.   The Falcons staged a sit-in protest in Abuja two days after winning their eighth African Women’s Cup of Nations title on December 3. They beat hosts Cameroon 1–0 in Yaoundé but refused to leave their hotel until the NFF paid their bonuses and allowances. The Presidency and National Assembly later stepped in to settle the payments.   The NFF had earlier warned it might scale back international commitments because the sports ministry allocated insufficient funds. Reports on Thursday confirmed most members now support the plan.   The Golden Eaglets may skip the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup qualifiers. The Flamingoes could withdraw from the 2018 FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup, while the Falconets may also miss the 2018 FIFA Women’s Under-20 World Cup.   Sources say NFF president Amaju Pinnick, upset with negative media coverage, pushed for a review. He urged members to focus on competitions the federation can fund. They agreed to back the move if finances fail to improve next year.   NFF spokesman Ademola Olajire confirmed the review but said it depends on funding. “The president mentioned it in an interview,” Olajire said. “We have to review how many championships we take part in. Few countries enter as many as we do.”   Olajire added that Pinnick believes the Under-17 boys, who have won five titles, have little left to prove. “If things don’t improve quickly, we may skip some categories,” he said. “But it’s not automatic that we withdraw.”
