President Buhari Rallies Golden Eaglets Ahead of U-17 World Cup Final

President Muhammadu Buhari has thrown his full support behind the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria as they prepare for the FIFA U-17 World Cup final in Chile. On Saturday evening, Buhari spoke with the players and officials for about 25 minutes, urging them to secure victory in the upcoming match against Mali.   Nigeria first won the tournament in China in 1985, during Buhari’s time as military head of state. He challenged the team to repeat that historic feat and bring home Nigeria’s fifth U-17 World Cup title.   According to his spokesman, Femi Adesina, the President began the call by congratulating Head Coach Emmanuel Amuneke on reaching the final. Buhari said, “Your victory tomorrow will remind Nigerians of what happened in China 30 years ago. It will boost national morale, especially among the youth. We’re praying for you and waiting to receive the cup. Put Nigeria back on the world map of football.”   Speaking to goalkeeper Udoh Akpan, Buhari called him a key player. “If you don’t let in goals, none will be scored against us,” he said. “We look forward to lifting the cup.”   To defender John Lazarus, he advised: “Don’t let anyone break through the defense.” He also urged Tobechukwu Ibe to “rest well today. Many Nigerians are counting on you.”   Addressing top scorer Victor Osimhen, who has netted nine goals, Buhari said: “Strike like thunder tomorrow. I believe you’ll bring us victory.”   He encouraged team captain Kelechi Nwakali to keep leading with confidence. He also praised midfielder Joel Osikel as “the jewel of the team” and urged him to play a strong role in securing the win.   Buhari didn’t leave out the support staff. He thanked the technical crew, doctor, physiotherapist, media officer, and other officials for their efforts.   Both Coach Amuneke and Captain Nwakali thanked the President for his support and promised to make the country proud.
