Rivers Gov Poll: Wike Appeals Tribunal Judgment

By Editor

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has filed an appeal at the Abuja Court of Appeal to challenge the judgment of the Rivers Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which nullified his April 11 election victory.

Wike asked the appellate court to set aside the October 24 ruling delivered by Justice Ambrosa Suleiman and his panel. He argued that the decision was perverse and legally flawed.   In a notice of appeal dated November 3, 2015, his lawyer Emmanuel Ukala (SAN) raised 26 grounds. He urged the court to decide whether the tribunal based its verdict on credible evidence and proper interpretation of the Constitution and Electoral Act.   Wike, dissatisfied with the entire judgment, listed the All Progressives Congress (APC), its candidate Dakuku Peterside, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as respondents.   He prayed the Appeal Court to overturn the tribunal’s ruling and dismiss the petition Peterside and APC filed on May 3, 2015.     Also Read: Trump Authorizes $300M in Weapons for Ukraine
