A senior Russian general, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov has been killed in a powerful car bomb explosion in central Moscow, in what authorities are calling one of the most significant security breaches in recent years.

The blast occurred late Monday near a government district, destroying the vehicle and leaving several bystanders injured. Emergency services rushed to the scene, cordoning off the area as investigators began combing through debris for evidence.
