Saraki Is Being Persecuted, APC Senator Insists

Deputy Senate Leader Ibn Na’Allah said on Friday that senators shut down plenary on Thursday to show solidarity with Senate President Bukola Saraki over his assets declaration trial.

Na’Allah argued that Saraki faces persecution, not prosecution.   He explained that most senators see the Code of Conduct Tribunal trial as political.   “The 8th Senate and many senators believe Saraki’s trial is persecution, not prosecution,” he said. “If it is persecution, we must stand by him. But if it is prosecution, we will support the government’s fight against corruption.”   Na’Allah said the trial looks political because it concerns events from 12 or 13 years ago. “You cannot blame senators for drawing that conclusion,” he added.   He insisted that a large number of people see the trial as wrong and cannot all be dismissed.   “We hope those who want to support this government sincerely will see the wisdom in portraying it as democratic,” he said. “Everyone who loves this country must help the government act within the Constitution.”   Na’Allah urged Nigerians to choose between clinging to questionable actions or following nations that embrace patriotism and trust in their leaders.       Also Read: Trump Authorizes $300M in Weapons for Ukraine
