The Syrian army foiled an Islamic State (ISIS) attack on an airbase in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour,

Government forces guarding the Deir al-Zour airbase fired rockets on explosive-laden tanks operated by IS militants, destroying them before they reached the gates of the base. Syria has been gripped by conflicts since March 2011. Over 250,000 people have reportedly been killed and millions displaced due to the rise of the Islamic State.
