A new U.S. travel policy restricting entry for citizens from 12 countries will officially go into effect on Monday, June 6. President Donald Trump signed the proclamation on June 4, citing concerns over national security risks.

The affected countries include Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Additionally, some nations including Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela will face partial restrictions. Trump defended the travel policy, stating, “We must protect Americans from dangerous foreign actors. This is about keeping our country safe.” The proclamation follows heightened immigration enforcement efforts, including visa revocations and deportations.
