Ukraine Erupts in Protest Over Anti-Corruption Law

By Reporter 5

Thousands of Ukrainians took to the streets this week in a wave of protests sparked by a newly signed law that threatens the independence of the country’s anti-corruption institutions.

The legislation, approved by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, places the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) under the control of the prosecutor general. Demonstrators gathered in Kyiv, Lviv, Dnipro, and Odesa, chanting slogans like “Veto the law!” and holding signs that read “Corruption Applauds” and “My father did not die for this”. This protests mark the largest public outcry since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. Also Read: Nations Condemn Israel’s “Drip Feeding” of Aid in Gaza
