Ukraine Suspends Justice Minister Amid $100M Energy Corruption Scandal

By Marie

Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko has suspended Justice Minister German Galushchenko amid a corruption scandal in the country’s energy sector.

The decision comes a day after anti-corruption prosecutors accused Galushchenko of profiting from a scheme that laundered money from Energoatom, Ukraine’s state-run nuclear power company. Galushchenko, who served as energy minister for four years, has agreed to the suspension, stating it is a “civilised and correct scenario” while he defends his case. Deputy Justice Minister for European Integration Lyudmyla Sugak has taken over Galushchenko’s responsibilities. Also Read: 20 People Aboard Military Cargo Plane Killed In Georgia
