US Lawmakers Rule Out Military Deployment to Nigeria

By Marie

US lawmakers have ruled out sending American troops to Nigeria, stressing that Washington’s recent designation of the country as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) is meant to drive reforms through diplomacy, not military action.

The announcement comes after Nigeria was redesignated as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) by the US government, a move intended to pressure Abuja into addressing violence and rights abuses. Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Congressman Bill Huizenga, who led the delegation, emphasized that the CPC designation is a diplomatic tool, not a prelude to military intervention. “Nigeria does need help, but that does not mean U.S. troops,” Huizenga said. “The CPC designation is a tool to motivate action, not a prelude to military deployment.” Also Read: Ukraine Suspends Justice Minister Amid $100M Energy Corruption Scandal
