Vietnam Shifts Work Permit Process to Local Authorities Starting July 1

By Marie

Beginning July 1, 2025, Vietnam will implement a new policy that transfers responsibility for processing work permits and immigration matters for foreign professionals from the central government to provincial authorities.

Under the new system, local departments specifically the Chairpersons of Provincial People’s Committees will now handle applications, exemptions, and approvals that were previously managed by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The change is intended to reduce delays and make the process more responsive to local needs. “This adjustment is about simplifying procedures and improving turnaround times,” said Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Hieu. “We believe provincial officials are well-positioned to manage these responsibilities effectively.” Also Read: Ruud van Nistelrooy Leaves Leicester City
