Equatorial Guinea’s ruling family, Ruslan Obiang Nsue, son of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, has been convicted for the illegal sale of a national airline aircraft. The Supreme Court ruled that Obiang Nsue, 50, who formerly served as director of the state-owned airline Ceiba Intercontinental, sold an ATR 72-500 plane to a Spanish company and pocketed the proceeds. The court sentenced him to six years in prison, but offered an alternative: he could avoid jail if he reimburses the airline approximately $255,000, along with additional fines and damages owed to the state.
