Federal immigration agents detained more than 70 individuals in sweeping raids across upstate New York this week, igniting criticisms from state officials, advocacy groups, and community leaders. The raids, conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), targeted workplaces in the towns of Cato and Fulton. The largest operation occurred at Nutrition Bar Confectioners, a factory in Cato, where dozens of workers were arrested in what witnesses described as one of the most aggressive workplace raids in recent state history. Governor Kathy Hochul condemned the raids, stating, “I am outraged by this morning’s ICE raids… families were torn apart and children left vulnerable without parents returning home”.
