50-year-old Erin Patterson has been sentenced to life in prison for the deliberate poisoning of her estranged husband’s family with a meal laced with deadly mushrooms. The Victorian Supreme Court handed down the sentence on Monday, with a non-parole period of 33 years. Patterson was convicted of three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder after serving a Beef Wellington lunch containing death cap mushrooms to four relatives in July 2023 at her home in Leongatha, southeast of Melbourne. The victims, Don and Gail Patterson, and Heather Wilkinson, died days later in hospital. Heather’s husband, Ian Wilkinson, survived after a lengthy hospitalization.
