Suntory CEO Resigns Amid Drug Investigation in Japan

By Reporter 5

Takeshi Niinami, the CEO of beverage giant Suntory Holdings, has stepped down following a police investigation into alleged drug-related misconduct. The 66-year-old executive, widely regarded as one of Japan’s most influential business leaders, came under scrutiny after authorities raided his residence in August. The probe was linked to the arrest of another individual in a separate drug case in July. Although no illegal substances were found at Niinami’s home, investigators suspect he may have imported supplements containing THC, the psychoactive compound found in cannabis from the United States. Niinami has denied any wrongdoing, reportedly telling police that the products were sent to him unsolicited by a female acquaintance and that he believed them to be legal. Suntory President Nobuhiro Torii stated at a press conference that the company accepted Niinami’s resignation “for personal reasons.” Also Read: France and UK Announce Nuclear Pact
